Sweet 16 Party Helps Ashley Put Illness Aside

“ Ashley’s Sweet 16 is a night of smiles and laughter. ”

Ashley has a double life - one part completely different from other teens, the other just like them.

She faces challenges from her medical condition, which means dealing with difficult medical treatments such as a bone marrow transplant. What Ashley really wished for was an experience that would make her feel not only like a princess for the night, but also….totally normal.

Ashley’s wish came true in the form of a Sweet 16 birthday celebration, sponsored by Jewelers for Children and orchestrated by volunteer wish granters and staff from Make-A-Wish Idaho. Her day began with a celebrity-worthy manicure, make-up application and hair styling. Add in a fantastic dress, and she was finally ready for her debut. Ashley had an unstoppable smile on her face when she made her grand entrance into a decked-out venue packed with her friends, family and classmates.

The highlight of the evening came when Ashley’s father waltzed her around the dance floor for a traditional daddy-daughter dance. The rest of the partygoers soon joined in to dance the night away to tunes spun by a professional DJ. Every moment of the night was captured by a skilled photographer so Ashley could treasure the memories for years to come.

Ashley’s wish night and 16th birthday were fun, memorable, dazzling and, yes … awesomely normal.

  • Ashley shares a dance with her father.

  • It’s a night of smiles and laughter.

  • Ashley first piece of cake – It’s time for the first slice of cake.

  • Ashley and her Sweet 16 limo.

  • It’s an occasion for Ashley and her family to celebrate.

  • Ashley’s Sweet 16 is a lime-green sort of affair.

Ashley's story is the reason we should try to be greater than we were yesterday so we can do for others. We all have a purpose and the ability to touch others in a way that is inpiring.

Ashley's story was beautiful. My son (who survived 2 thyroid cancer surgeries) was just nominated for a wish and I'm excited to see what they will do for him.
